Story
Thank you for visiting my dad's memorial page.
My dad, Peter Lamb, passed away in August 2013, only two months after being diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and devastating cancer of the bile ducts that at present has little in the way of treatment.
My dad was a very special person and was considered by many as their best friend due to his enthusiasm for life and for helping others. He was typically the first port of call for anyone needing advice on, or help with, a whole range of topics, be it DIY, health, HiFi or relationships. He had a knack of connecting with all ages and types of people. I have never known someone to be able to have that effect on people. He would often have random people come up to him in the street like old friends, having only spoken to them for five minutes a few months or even years earlier. He was the person we all relied upon and he is sorely missed by us all.
My dad worked in the NHS for over thirty years in order to provide me with the best upbringing I could have asked for. He retired in March and it feels deeply unfair that only three months into his new life, he should be hit with such news. Now, having worked in the NHS, my dad knew immediately what the ramifications were of this cruel disease, but rather than feel sorry for himself he immediately went to cushion the impact of the news for all those around him - never once complaining of the cruel luck he was dealt. That more than anything singles out the character of my dad - caring, inspirational and one of a kind. He was most definitely taken from us all far too early.
He was my dad, but he was also my best friend. I can only hope that one day I can show such courage in the face of adversity, as well as being as great a dad as he was to me.
As well as being a memorial to my dad, this page is designed to help raise awareness and funds for AMMF (The Alan Morement Memorial Fund), a UK based charity that specialises in research into the causes and treatment for cholangiocarcinoma. Currently there is not enough research into this rare form of cancer and it is often only picked up in the late stages when there is little treatment available. With our contributions we can help fund research into cholangiocarcinoma and hopefully tip the balance back in our favour and save many lives in the future.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving and will never be shared. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to AMMF and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Please feel free to leave any messages to my dad on his page. Thank you all for your generous donations.
Jonathan.
