Story
Update - 2 April 2014
Yesterday, Leader of Southwark Council, Cllr Peter John, completed a 'back to the floor' day for the Mayor's chosen charity, the Evelina Hospital for children. He was sponsored to spend the day getting his hands dirty on a refuge round that begins at dawn for the team every day, out with the street cleaning team, fixing emergency plumbing repairs and helping our pest control service deal with rats and 'roaches.
Cllr John said: "Thanks so much to everyone who has supported the charity so far. I'd also like to give my praise to the council teams who do this work each day and let me come along and experience it for the day. I urge anyone who hasn't yet donated, and would like to, to make a donation today - it's impossible to describe how important the work the Evelina Hospital does is and with your support they can continue to give the best care to very sick children who desperately need it."

I will be raising money for the Evelina London Children's Hospital with a sponsored day going back to the floor with Southwark Council officers. My efforts are supporting Southwark New's campaign which aims to make £100,000 for the charity.
I will work with a number of services and will be sweeping the streets of Southwark, helping out the pest control team, and working with the repairs emergency call out team.
I am really looking forward to this challenge, and know that Southwark News will have chosen jobs for me that involve getting my overalls on, getting my hands dirty and working unsociable hours. I genuinely relish the chance to raise money for such a great cause while learning more about what Southwark Council's hardworking officers do every day.
Bring it on and please sponsor me - the thought of raising money for all the young people the Evelina helps will spur me on during some of the more mucky jobs!
