Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Here we are .... Another year older, a little too much weight being carried on aching feet, knees, hips & back but when challenges are thrown down what the heck are you supposed to do? That's right, join your hockey mates, get stuck in & meet the challenge head-on & hope you don't end up in a box soon afterwards!
In all honesty, Cancer Research is a really worthy cause to raise some much needed sponsorship for & 10K isn't too much of an ask (well it hasn't in the past for me but my poor knees aren't agreeing with my analysis right now... they'll have to cope as I'm doing it!). Regrettably, when it comes to cancer, it's not unusual for any of us to have friends or family who have suffered.

For me there's an elevated risk as there's HLRCC in my family which has to be monitored. It's a rare condition & caused by a defective gene (see link above). In the big scheme of things my situation isn't at all dramatic but I'm mindful that there's an increased risk of renal cancer so I have an annual MRI check up. There's only about 1,500 families world wide that are known to suffer from HLRCC, that number is rising due to greater awareness & identification, not that it makes much difference as all suffers have to contend with whatever their particular set of circumstances throw at them. It's a strange condition as (for those that know they have it) some are like me & it's just some benign skin tumours with an increased risk of developing renal cancer at some point in their lives, whereas others get hit with all manner of horrendous issues. There needs to be more research but that takes money, lots of money. I'd love to raise money specifically for HLRCC but every cancer needs more research so any amount I can raise is going to be beneficial.
Maybe what I manage to raise won't help those who suffer with cancer today or tomorrow or even for me, if my time comes, but every £1 increases the chance of finding a solution.
So ... if you don't mind ..... will you pledge a little bit?
I'll do my bit & try to get round the 10K in the quickest time I can ... as that will maximise my pain ... as we are so often told, no pain, no gain ... & I'd like the gain to be in pledges, please.
Cheers
