The Birmingham Transplant Centre will be a national centre of excellence for organ transplantation. It will put patient care at the forefront of transplantation and will create a 'one stop shop' for patients undergoing organ transplants.

Story

I received a kidney transplant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham on 8th September 1978, after 6 years of dialysis. After that I was the first transplanted person to run a marathon in May 1981, and also represented GB six times in the World Transplant Games, winning some medals for middle distance running including two golds. The new Transplant Unit will bring all transplants together, with all the hospital transplantation expertise in one area. I hope I can raise a good amount of funds to help with the cost of the New Unit, which is entirely paid for by the charity. This is my way of a big thank you for the full life that transplantation has given me. 54 holes of golf at Widney Manor Golf Course on 08/09/22 (44 years of my transplant to the day ).
