Story
Hey!
Across May 7th - 8th, I will be attempting to finish the Ultra X 125 Scotland Ultramarathon. On day 1 the route travels from the bottom of Inverness (Bught Park Pitches) along the Great Glen Way to the southern shores of Loch Ness (Fort Augustus), a total of 75km with over 2100m of elevation gain! Then, at 0800 on day 2 we (Ed Chambler will be joining me for the second day) set off from the campsite to navigate the South Loch Ness Trail. Following another 50km and 1,381m ascent we will hopefully make it to the finish line in Dores. This will take us through some stunning woodlands, past magnificent waterfalls and offer us some breathtaking views over Loch Tarff.
Now, many of you will be asking 'why put yourself through such a horrendous challenge? Be a normal medical student and go to the pub'. Well, you would not be alone in thinking this; I too have had sleepless nights wondering why on earth I keep voluntarily scrambling through the hillocks of Preston. But having seen how much money Ed and I were able to raise last year for SAMH it is clear that all of the blisters, sweat and terrible selfies are worth it.
This time, I will be aiming to raise £1,250 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Following these past couple of years of national lockdowns, it is safe to say that many of us have felt alone, for people struggling with cancer this has been particularly difficult. It is vitally important that we are all aware of this and do our bit to support charities working in this area. We hope that our run will spread the word, help raise some money and generate some executive positive vibes.
We would be more than grateful for any donations you can give for this great cause. Please donate via the link and follow our training account on Instagram @lankymenrun !
Thank you for taking the time to read through our page!
Much love,
Peter and Ed
PS. We are also going to be running the Edinburgh marathon on May 29th (I'm not sure if I've told Ed that yet...)
