Event: CARE London to Paris Cycle Challenge, on 30 June 2011
We at CARE International, fight poverty to help the world’s most vulnerable people.

Story

As many of you know, I regularly commute to Paris to visit the Fastbooking offices, just off the Champs Elysees. Up until now, I have always taken the Eurostar there and back. At the end of June, however, I am planning to cycle to work instead. Door to door is 374km (234miles) and it will take me three days.

So why am I doing this?

1. I realise that I am in a very fortunate position and I want to do something to help others with greater need.

2. Cycling seemed a better option than running.

Why you should sponsor me:

1. Your contribution will help CARE International fight poverty and injustice around the world. Their mission is to create lasting change in poor communities; their ongoing work tackles the deep-seated root causes of poverty, not just the consequences. This is something that both Heather and I are deeply committed to. We believe that an end to poverty is achievable but only through a combined approach which includes effective and transparent aid, fighting tax evasion by multinationals, and developing new sources of funding such as the Robin Hood tax. Developing countries lose more to tax dodging by multinational companies than they receive in aid each year. If poor countries could raise more taxes they could end their dependence on aid and escape the cycle of poverty.

2. Without your pledges I am quite likely to get off and give up after the first day.

Thanks very much for your support.
