Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July 2012, my wife, Barbara, passed away at the East Lancashire Hospice following a very short battle with cancer. During our time there, the staff, doctors, nurses and volunteers were a tower of strength and support during the most painful of times. Nothing was too much trouble and without them, I am not sure how we would have coped, knowing what was inevitably going to happen.
The Hospice is an amazing place, but costs over £3 million a year to run, approximately £8,000 per day, and funded by private donations.
I have always wanted to visit the Himalayas and I love the outdoor life, and especially riding my bike. When I heard of a trip that included riding across the Himalayas, from Lhasa (Tibet) to Kathmandu (Nepal), 1200kms via Everest Base Camp I knew that would be the challenge of a lifetime. I will be departing 21st September for Kathmandu, then on to Lhasa to start the ride back, arriving at Everest base camp on 6th October.
In memory of Barbara, and in support of the East Lancs Hospice, I am aiming to raise the money to run the Hospice for just one day. Riding the Himalayas is the challenge of a lifetime, but nothing to the challenge faced by friends and relatives whose loved ones are not going to recover.
Help me to help them.
