Event: CARE London to Brighton Cycle Challenge, on 7 June 2014
We at CARE International, fight poverty to help the world’s most vulnerable people.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On June 7, I am doing a sponsored bike ride from London to Brighton. 56 miles/91 kilometres, and a few hills in between.

I had decided in February to do the ride for CARE International, to support its work providing aid to people living in disaster and conflict zones, from Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines to women's groups in Afghanistan and refugees from the conflict in Syria.

Beyond this, CARE also has a focus on combatting rape and other gender-based violence in conflict zones.

Then came the news of what happened to an Afghan colleague of mine. I am a journalist and in March, a colleague, his wife and two of their three children were killed, leaving one two-year-old son an orphan.

So I redoubled my training and will seek to raise funds for both.

Given what CARE do and what happens to people such as my colleague and family, a few early morning training rides do not seem so much.

If you can give your support, it will be going to a worthy cause.
