Story
Tim , Chris , Pete and Jamie have decided to complete a cycle ride along the route of Hadrian's wall in July 21, building upon the successes of their previous charity rides over the last 3 years and raising Circa £8k to date.
The ride will be in aid of St Rocco's Hospice in Warrington.
The Hospice is close to our hearts which provides end of life care to those in our community diagnosed with a life-limiting disease, to live well and towards the end of their life have a dignified death in a place of their choice. They care for the whole person and those who matter to them.
The Hadrian's Cycleway is approximately a 100 mile 'Coast to Coast' ride with a difference. The beauty of this ride is not the achievement of riding from the west coast to the east coast of England, but in the fact that you have ridden and seen the living history of Hadrian's Wall.
Built by the Emperor Hadrian in AD 122 this defensive wall was constructed over a 4 year period to defend the northern edge of the Roman Empire from the invading barbarians in the North.
The 2 day route starts in the little hamlet of Bowness on Solway which is officially the western most point of the original wall. Heading from here to Carlisle and eastward over some very rural countryside they will join the River Tyne which will take them through Newcastle upon Tyne to Tynemouth and the end of the route.
Route highlights include Birdoswald Roman Fort, Roman Army Museum, Vindolanda Settlement, Hexham Abbey and breathtaking views from start to finish!
Again, we will not be ashamed to get off and push if needed but the main goal is finishing and raising much needed funds for a special place.
You can be certain that any donations will be received with great thanks and will be put to great use by the hospice.
Thank you for your support!
