We Provide unique "Home from Home' care to help sick children & their families

Story

Hi, my name is Peter Clement and I have always promised myself I would try to give something back to your charity that helped my family out when we needed it most.
Background.....
My son Benjamin was born on 23rd March 2002 but was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia around 6 weeks old. We were sent to Kings College Hospital in London for treatment immediately but this proved to be unsuccessful over the following months. He was put on the Liver Transplant list and we waited at home for the call. In August that call came and we went to London. It was during this stay in Kings we were lucky enough to have a respite off the Ward to recharge our batteries, we were given the keys to a flat just off the hospital grounds, a short walk.
As with many other families, we found it extremely stressful coping with a child with a life threatening disease, being able to get away from this allowed us to cope better, be there for each other and try to be good parents.
Benjamin had his Liver Transplant but unfortunately complications a few weeks later meant the liver was failing. He became gravely ill and need a new liver. I gave him part of mine which literally saved his life. Our family was being torn apart, but being able to have a "Home from Home" meant we could have family (our other children) around us.

In December 2002 we were lucky enough to meet Barry and his Wife plus Pauline Quirk when the Charity handed over the keys to a 3rd "Home from Home" supporting the Variety Club in Kings College Hospital....they wanted to meet the families that were using the 2 flats at the time of the ceremony in the Board Room. I vowed then that I would give something back.

Since then Benjamin struggled with the Liver he had from me and needed a 3rd Liver Transplant...in 2006 he had the operation and has been a "new child ever since. He is now a healthy 12 year old, living life as a youngster should.

Me....
I have been a lifelong smoker until 6 months ago. On September 8th 2013 I quit, since then I have had a gradual plan to get healthier. In February I started running with my Brother as a means to get fit, well now this has escalated into a challenge to run the Swansea 10k together in September with my eldest son Jamie.
