Story
I did it!! If you were watching the telly, I was one of the 20,000 cyclists who rode the 100 miles from the Olympic Park to The Mall, via 100 miles of Surrey country side. If you had already donated, many, many thanks for your generosity. It really motivated me to get round on the day.
As one of the Apollo astronauts once commented on take-off - "what a ride, what a ride!" It was an incredible event and an amazing day. I was delighted with a finish time of 5hrs 42mins including a couple of very quick pit-stops.
If you hadn't donated before the day, please don't just read this and think "what a wonderful thing to do". There is still time to donate to an organisation that continues to work tirelessly for children and adults (such as my daughter Josephine) with multiple, complex disabilities, predominantly focusing on those that are both deaf and blind.
You will no doubt be aware of the MMR vaccination debate. Now, many of the issues created by the loss of large scale (herd) immunity are coming home to roost and the knock-on effects, particularly as a result of increased cases of Rubella, will require the expertise of Sense now and in the future.
I only cycled 100 miles, they are going the extra mile on a daily basis for tens of thousands of people that could only ever dream of riding a bike.
Thanks for your great support. I really appreciate it.
Here's to next year!
