Story
In April 2019 I suffered multiple strokes caused my major heart failure. I was rushed to A&E for a life saving thrombectomy and was then placed in a induced coma for 5 weeks. When I woke the stroke had robbed me of my ability to walk, talk and eat and drink.
The road from then to now has been incredibly tough and the long term effects continue to limit my day to day life. But I'm not alone. One in four strokes happen to people of working age and the long term support can be difficult to find once a patient leaves hospital.
Different Strokes is the only charity dedicated to younger stroke survivors. They have supported my wife Charlie and me reclaim our lives through active peer support and practical advice beyond what a hospital can offer.
I am incredibly humbled that Savills Oxford chose Different Strokes as the office charity for 2021 and this abseil is my little contribution to their fundraising efforts and my chance to give something back to this wonderful cause
I have previously displayed a remarkable lack of talent for walking backwards off tall things so the prospects for making a complete fool of myself in front of most east London are high. Any contribution you can make to increase the pressure will be much appreciated and help a valuable contribuiton to a worthy cause close to my dodgy old heart...
Thanks,
Pete
