Story

Hello!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page.

I have chosen to take on the mammoth task of running the London marathon on behalf of a charity I hold close to my heart - Alzheimers Research. It will no doubt be a journey of pain and suffering but nothing in comparison to the those affected and their loved ones who lose the person they know drift away

Not only that, I am have also decided to take on the ‘4x4x48’ challenge. Starting on 3rd March at 8pm, I will be running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours, I will be adding on 10 miles extra to make up the age my mother died.. 58

I appreciate times are very tough for everyone right now and so any donations made will be truly appreciated.

A bit more on why I am running for Alzheimers Research.

My mum Sharon Ashford sadly died of Early Onset Alzheimers at the age of 58. She was first diagnosed in the Summer of 2018. From that point on her health deteriorated rapidly. In November 2019, she was admitted to Barry Hospital on the Young Onset Dementia ward. In February 2020, she declined further and stopped eating. This went on for a number of weeks and the decision was made that she receive palliative care, dying just two weeks later on 13th March 2020.

Her brother (Robert Hawkes) had also been diagnosed with it at a similar time and he too deteriorated quickly passing away in 2021 at the age of 56.

My late Grandfather Peter Hawkes had lived with Alzheimers along with my late Grandmother Pat who lived with dementia.

£200 will pay for 500 test tubes, the lifeblood of effective dementia research.

£500 will cover the cost of a sensitive brain scan for a patient involved in a research study.

£2,500 will allow researchers to buy synthetically made amyloid, to better understand this hallmark Alzheimer’s protein in the lab.

Thank you for your time.

Peter
