Story
I'm raising money for The Good Grief Project. Their mission is to support grieving families - especially those on low incomes - after the untimely death of a loved one, particularly the death of a child. They do this through active grief retreats, and by encouraging a creative response to grief through various art forms and media.
The retreats support bereaved families as they look for new and creative ways of expressing their feelings as they come to terms with the death of a son or daughter.
Approximately 6,000 young people under the age of 24 die in the UK every year leaving up to 50,000 newly bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents.
The Good Grief Project is dedicated to an understanding of grief as an on going, active and creative process. They advocate for and support bereaved families by helping them realise the creative potential of their grief.
💰 FUNDRAISING
My target is £6,130 and I really need your help to get me there!
Each retreat costs around £14,000 (£750 per person). The goal is to make places available to all, especially now during the current cost of living which has had a devastating effect for those on low incomes.
Everyone deals with grief differently; it's not a linear process and it can manifest in strange and unexpected ways. The Good Grief project helps families make sense of, understand and live with their grief.
Your donation will directly help support mums, dads, siblings and grandparents as they try to rebuild their lives and manage their grief after suffering the loss of a loved one.
🏔 THE CHALLENGE
Mount Kilimanjaro - the Roof of Africa - is the highest point on the African continent at 5,895m. I'll be part of a team of about 8 people, setting off on the Lemosho route on 13th October 2023.
From there it will take 8 full days to get up and down, during which we'll cover about 100km. The ascent takes in 5 major eco-systems from rainforest to glacier via alpine desert. It can get as low as -15 at night.
The push to the summit begins at midnight - the aim is to get to the top just after dawn. Can't say I've ever done a night climb above 5000m before!
Wish me luck 🙃
