Story
We're very fortunate to have everything we need - and each other - so instead of presents we wanted to give friends and family the option of making a small donation to a charity that is close to our hearts if they wished to do so.
Most people are aware of the devastating effects of dementia. It is a cruel, unforgiving affliction that robs people of their memory, ability and personality, among many other things.
The equivalent of one person every three minutes will be diagnosed with a form of dementia this year in the UK. At present there is no cure or known cause, but lots of incredible research is being undertaken by charities such as Alzheimer's UK (which leads research into all types of dementia, not just Alzheimer's disease) that will hopefully change this.
But it's not just about finding a cure, the charity also provides invaluable support to people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers. Having reached out to some very special elderly people with dementia, I can tell you that this kind of support is vital in helping to combat the isolation, loneliness and fear that comes with this group of diseases.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your donations and for sharing our special day.
