Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After a lot of talking, I have finally set myself the challenge of completing my first Triathlon. OK, so it's only the sprint version but will still involve a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km road run (not I don't say race!). As a further motivation for putting myself through the training to make sure I don't embarrass myself I would also like to try and raise some money for a charity very close to my heart and experiences.
Without going into too much detail, the end of my first marriage and an atrocious family legal system meant that I battled for over 3 years to try and get regular and fair access to my son and daughter (now 20 and 15). Whilst I managed to get time with my son for a while, I rarely saw my daughter and this ceased completely when I began seeing someone else. Throughout this time my ex-wife ran rough shod over access agreements and used my access to the children as an increasingly bitter and effective weapon. I have now not seen my daughter in nearly 4 years and my son for 18 months. After sitting through numerous painful, pointless, crass and expensive court hearings, I have now given up fighting through the courts and can only hope that one day my children will see through the cruelty of their mother's actions and I will once again be able to rebuild a relationship with them.
If I can use this triathlon to help prevent other fathers going through the heartache I have endured and helping to challenge a legal system with so little concern for maintaining the well-being of the children of separations then that would be just fantastic.
