Story
We decided to help raise money for Cardiomyopathy after one of our close friends Matt spent the last six months of 2020 in and out of hospital after suffering from pericarditis. This caused extremely painful and debilitating 'flare ups' in his heart. Very little is known about the cause of these 'flare ups' and it can affect people for their entire lives. There is still no effective cure aside from drugs to manage the pain.
With all of this happening amidst the pandemic, we wanted to both support our mate but also raise awareness of these largely unheard of issues. This seems particularly important in the current climate, when the value of good health has never been more pertinent.
At the beginning of March, a group of his closest friends combined to walk (virtually) the 227 miles from Leeds to his childhood home in Surrey. We raised £1,010 doing so, more than double our original target!
When speaking with the charity to set this up, I also impulsively and very foolishly decided to enter the 100km Race to the Stones to raise further money for Cardiomyopathy UK. Having never previously even run a marathon, it's going to be a brutal challenge so I hope we can raise some further funds for what is a great cause.
Cardiomyopathy UK is the heart muscle charity to help provide the only support for families affected by incurable heart-muscle disease. We exist to save lives and ensure that people with cardiomyopathy can live long, fulfilling lives. We can only provide support with your help and your donations, so thank you very much for your support.
