We raise awareness and funds to combat the causes of homelessness

Story

Seven of us are now trying to raise £1600 each to build a house for a specific person who lost their families and homes in the 2015 Nepal earthquakes. I am specifically going to raise enough to build 70 year old Nirmala Tamang a home as she lost her husband and house (I will donate the balance of any shortfall). She has unfortunately been living in a shack for the last 2 years see the photos below. All of us are self funding our trips, have trained hard and my friend's charity (Paul Campbell) makes sure every penny you donate goes to building the houses and no money is wasted, as he oversees it, and is actually helping build one house himself after the trip. Each house costs just £1600 to build.

The team includes, Sean Newman, Clint Nykamp, Mark Tobin, Simon Hawkesley, Dean Thornicroft, Paul Campbell from Campbell's Foundation in Nepal and myself (Pepe Kenth!).

On the 12th October we will begin our two week trek to the Everest Base Camp and slightly higher (5900m) to raise donations for the construction of houses in Thangpalkot1, a village in the District of Sindhupalchok which is northeast of Kathmandu.

Thangpalkot1, along with many other villages and vast amounts of Nepal, was destroyed by the two earthquakes in 2015. Thousands were killed or displaced and much of Nepal is yet to be repaired and restored.

The Fine & Country Foundation has teamed up with Campbell's Foundation in Nepal to help rebuild the village of Thangpalkot1. So far around 13 homes are complete, but we aim to build another 63. Each home costs approximately £1,600 to build so we are aiming to use this expedition to raise donations for two more houses.

All the money raised will go directly to the Nepal housing project.

About the charity

The Fine & Country Foundation has been created to help combat one of the largest social issues in the UK – homelessness. Last year, the Government estimated around 2,414 people sleep on the street on any one night across England, a rise of 36% over three years. Often the reasons for homelessness are misunderstood, with many blaming the individuals for poor life decisions and carelessness. The reality is: people become homeless for a whole range of complex and overlapping reasons that cannot be avoided, such as family breakdowns, mental or physical health problems or debts. Solving homelessness does not only involve putting a roof over people’s heads, it is also trying to tackle the root of the problem and asking the question: why did they became homeless in the first place? The Fine & Country Foundation is dedicated to bringing together all Fine & Country agents in over 300 locations worldwide to raise awareness of the causes of homelessness whilst supporting homeless charities.
