Story
Thanks to PICU we proudly introduce you to Penny Grace Morgan. 20 weeks through our pregnancy Penny was diagnosed with a life threatening condition Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). We were advised that Penny would need open heart surgery during the first 7 days of life. Southampton General Hospital in conjunction with the John Radcliffe Hospital did an excellent job in preparing us for what was to come. Penny was born 4 weeks early at the JR on 4th June at 1347hrs. By 1800hrs she had been transported down to Southampton and admitted to PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit). Although we fully prepared with the facts of what needed to happen to save our daughters life, what we could not have been prepared for was how we would emotionally cope with the harrowing experience ahead. Penny was dangerously ill prior to her open heart surgery she underwent 2 lifesaving procedures, at times we were not sure she would pull through. PICU not only saved our daughters life, but they saved ours too. We always expected the nurses and doctors to be professional and caring but we simply never understood just how much they care and how much emotional strain they go through every single working day. Nurses and Doctors were at points in tears with us, they came in on their days off, they called hourly from home or updates on her latest SATS and progress, questioning their decisions at every point, (we never questioned any of their decisions).
Penny is now fully recovered and is a bonny happy baby, we are so lucky to have her.
Hayfield Homes and IND-Tech have kindly offered to sponsor us to run the 10K British Heart Foundation run on 30th September 2018, but we need to raise more for PICU which was our home 24/7 for 3 weeks in June.
Please donate and help us raise some much needed funds for this amazing unit, we honestly believe we would never have made it without them.
Pease see above all the other friends and family that are also running with us to raise money for PICU.
Thanks for taking the time to read our story and feel free to contact us for further information
