Story
I’m donating my hair to help make wigs for children with cancer.
My mummy is being treated for breast cancer. She says the treatments sometimes make people’s hair fall out. My hair is very long – it goes right the way down to my waist! I decided that I would have it cut short and give the hair they cut off to a charity that makes free wigs for boys and girls that have lost their own hair. It’s called the Little Princess Trust. http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk
I need to donate at least 8 inches of my hair.
If you would like to sponsor me, the money will go to a very special charity – the UCH Cancer Fund. http://www.uchcancerfund.org.uk
I was born at UCH, Mummy trained there and now she’s having treatment there for her breast cancer. She’s had surgery already and she’s going to start chemotherapy next, so she will probably lose her own hair.
The people who work at UCH are really nice and are always doing a little bit extra for Mummy. They really need money to fund things like their brilliant support and information service, a new ultrasound machine, chemotherapy chairs and things like that.
Think about how much you spend on yourself at the hairdresser. It would be wonderful if you made a donation of even half that amount. Not everyone can spare that much, of course. But whatever amount you can give - even if it's just the price of a coffee or a beer - it all adds up.
Daddy is going to take before-and-after pictures of me and use them to make some thank you cards. If you donate £20 or more, I’ll send you one in my best handwriting. Just remember to include your address!
Love, Penny Dawson
UPDATE: I've done it now! Here is a movie of my trip to the
hairdresser.
