Story
Penina Shepherd:
“For me dancing for the Sussex Beacon has a deep personal meaning. In 2015 my brother who lives overseas, was diagnosed with HIV but unfortunately not early enough. As a consequence he is now mute, paralysed on one side and brain damaged. I spent two months by his hospital bed every day and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. The work that charities like Sussex Beacon do, is a true lifeline for people who have to go through this hell of a journey.”
Sam Thomas:
“When Penina shared her story with me and the reason for doing this I really wanted to support her and this amazing cause to really make a difference.”
Penina & Sam:
“We are both representing the Sussex Beacon at the 2022 Midsummer Ball – Live from Las Vegas – at the Brighton Hilton on 25 June.
We went way (way!) out of our comfort zone and agreed to participate in a dance competition (Las Vegas theme) as a way of raising money for the Sussex Beacon and other worthy and fantastic charities.
We want to support them, and the other charities at the Ball, by raising as much money as we can. Please help us help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button.
The more people that know about the Midsummer Ball – Live from Las Vegas, the greater the impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!”

ps. Midsummer Ball is an initiative of Hilton Brighton Metropole. The net amount raised from the Midsummer Ball is divided between the four charities supported by the event as follows: 75% of online fundraising raised by our performers goes to the charity that they are representing. The remaining 25% and all net profits from the evening (including sponsorship, ticket sales, auction and raffle) are split equally between the four charities”
