Story

Hi Troops,

My name is Lee Davies, I'm a 37yr old British Soldier who runs ultra marathons.

2 years ago, I started experiencing severe pain in my face. These attacks would often bring me to my knees in tears and leave me physically and mentally drained.

Because of my condition I was unable to continue my career as a professional soldier and was sent home to try and find answers. This is where things took a turn for the worst.

At this point I am on my 5th different type of medication and 3rd diagnosis of condition. I had completely lost my identity, at times I couldn't even leave the house for months on end because of the pain and meds.  For those that know how much I love fitness, know that alone is hard enough.

See now I have been diagnosed with,  SUNA https://americanmigrainefoundation.org/resource-library/sunct-suna/

This has turned my world upside down and my mental state as a result of this and medication ended in me seeking therapy. I could not see a way through, not only was I having to deal with the attacks. I had to come to terms with the fact that I was about to lose the career and life I had worked so hard to achieve and I was so proud.

Therapy taught me many things, most importantly that despite living with a chronic pain condition - I have the power to decide how I react to my situation.

See - If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

I did exactly this, and alongside daily attacks and bearing the side effects of the medication. I set my targets on proving to myself that I did in fact have the power to take control, I wasn't going to succumb and spend any more months in pain and alone in seclusion. Not doing the thing I loved - Running!

June this year I achieved this and Won and set the course record on a challenging coastal 40 mile run from Porthcawl to Penarth. Organised by Rhys & Cerys at Pegasus Ultrarunning.

Whilst the days are still challenging with the attacks, and in the coming weeks I will be discharged from the Army. I want to shout from the rooftops on the power of belief and the power of mindset. If I can go through this and completely reframe my whole outlook on life then you can too.

That is why I have teamed up with Big Moose charity, on 13th-14th  of May 2023, I will be taking part in 10yfan. 10 times up and down pen y fan in 24 hours. I need to raise a minimum of £400. This will cover the cost of 1 person to receive free therapy.

I will also be running The Pegasus Slam.

The PEGASUS SLAM 2023 – 6 events,  220 miles of running and 23,515ft ft of elevation.

The Pegasus Slam is here! Finish the South CANUM, the HOWUM, the VOGUM, the PIGUM, the EDDUM and the RIDUM in one calendar year and you will have completed the Pegasus Slam!

From the golden coastline of South Wales to the mountain tops of Mid Wales, this brutal series of events showcases the best trails and views Wales has to offer. The challenge starts in April and the goal is to finish an ultra marathon a month up until September.

So it is my hope that along the way, I can do what I can to help share what I've learnt so far and also raise funds for the Big Moose Charity.

Statement from Big Moose

During lockdown we were providing therapy for lots of people and were told by five people that without our intervention they would have ended their lives.

Due to early and impactful intervention 5 people were still alive. 5 families weren't grieving and the world still had these amazing humans in it.

We listened to people's stories & one thing that we kept hearing was that the therapy & intervention that people needed was taking too long and was inaccessible for so many.

And so,

just like that, project 1 million was born. Throughout 2022 we are aiming to raise £1,000,000 which will be used to provide therapy and early intervention for people.

This is a huge goal and we cannot do it alone. Our goal is to help people with their mental health, prevent suicide and reduce homelessness.

We will achieve our goal and we will save lives. in 2020, 5224 people killed themselves in England and wales.

This project will help to reduce this number. we hope you will join us.
