Story
I am delighted to say that I completed the Challenge.
It was a lifetime experience (Col de la Madeleine - 26km of climbing, Col du Galibier - climbing up to 2640m and Alp D'Huez - legendary).
It was tougher than I had anticipated with the last 2 days providing cold rain, thick cloud and very low visibility. The entire group completed the challenge and our combined sponsorship will fund a Macmillan nurse for an entire year.
I would like to thank everyone that sponsored me and for all the encouragement and ‘keep safe’ messages – it was dangerous!
I am still collecting sponsorship so if you haven’t got round to it yet, and you feel you would like to make a donation, please do so.
Please see my facebook page for updates. OK so it's here and I'm all packed. I've had a great send off from the guys at work, again, thanks for the bananas, the vaseline and the advice. I'm overwhelmed by everyone’s encouragement and generosity yet a little concerned by the comments about my insanity taking this on. At the end of the day it’s about the cause and I’m determined to hit my target and hopefully exceed it so, if you haven’t got round to it yet please find the time and donate whatever you can because any amount, however small, will make a difference to someone who really needs it.
Between 16th & 18th September 2010 I will be tackling the tough mountain climbs made famous by the Tour de France and conquering three Hors Catégorie climbs covering 110 km per day. I haven't completely lost his mind, I'm taking part in The Alps Challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
This will be quite the challenge, cycling undulating countryside and up and down steep mountain roads in varying weather conditions. I have pledged to raise £1,800 towards Macmillan, although I'm hoping to raise much more.
Each day 739 people in the UK are told that they have cancer. More than 2 million people in the UK today have a cancer diagnosis and more than one in three will be diagnosed at some time in their life. As well as supporting people from the moment they suspect they have cancer, Macmillan are at the forefront of shaping the future of Cancer Care. Macmillan has an increasing range of services including Macmillan nurses, doctors and other health and social care professionals, cancer care centres, a range of cancer information, practical help at home and help with money - all of which are entirely funded through the generosity of people like yourselves.
Thanks to the support Macmillan receives, they are able to provide practical and emotional support which makes a real difference to people living with cancer today - and tomorrow.
Any donation would be very much appreciated as these guys really make a difference when it's most needed.
Thanks
Pedro
