Story
This cycle is starting on the 7th of July at Dover, then I will cross the English Channel via ferry, then I will cycle from Calais, France, to Ypres, Belgium, covering 280km.
I will be passing through key historical regions of France and Belgium where battles of WW1 & WW2 were fought, along with the war cemeteries & memorials.
The British Legion has helped veterans of all wars and their families since its formation in 1921 and continues to do so. For our tomorrow, they gave their today.
Supporting me on this ride, your donations will help The Royal British Legion provide lifelong support to help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families. The Legion supports serving and ex-serving personnel all year round, every day of the week.
This is close to my heart as I’m a veteran of Afghanistan and Northern Ireland, who suffered and still suffers from PTSD. I manage my mental health with daily exercise, hiking, and finding faith and peace in God
This will be a personal challenge for me following 2 personal events last year. Firstly, in January 2022 I contracted meningitis which nearly took my life. Secondly, when on the mend in August 2022, I broke my tibia, fibula and dislocated my ankle in a freak accident. This required plates & pins to reconstruct my ankle. Which therefore has had an affected on how I walk permanently. This illness and horrific injury had an adverse effect on my mental health as it took away my freedom to hike and my ability to exercise. Instead of negatively reflecting and focusing on what I can't do, I focus positively on what I can do. Which has taken me down the route of cycling.
