Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the "Pedal for Pam" JustGiving page.

In memory of Pam Cottam, who sadly passed away on the 11 March 2013 having been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, myself and Michael Docherty have decided to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

We are undertaking the 1500+ mile cycle from Out Rawcliffe to Barcelona with a target duration of 21 days.  Commencing on June 22nd, our route will include a tough climb phase through the Pyrenees where we will be tackling the mighty Col du Tourmalet - a 19km Tour de France mountain pass from Luz-Saint-Sauveur to La Mongie.  Our aim is to push ourselves to the absolute limit and make all these valuable donations truly worthwhile - your support, no matter how big or small, will be gratefully received by the charity and will no doubt spur us on as we look to complete this gruelling challenge.

This is being funded completely off our own backs; all donations go straight to the charity - none of this covering costs nonsense!

It really is an extremely good cause which is receiving a lot of national publicity at the moment, particularly with respect to Stilian "Stan" Petrov who was diagnosed with leukaemia just over a year ago.  He thankfully is now in recovery and with your help and ours, this can be the outcome for many more blood cancer patients.

Every year, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research have to raise around £20 million to fund their life-saving work - I think we can certainly get at least a million from this cycle!! (Dig deep!)

On a serious note though, I think we have a great chance of raising some serious cash for the charity here and any and all contributions make a significant dent into that £20 million figure they need.

The Cartford Inn have been instrumental with their help and support throughout the planning stages and will continue to be seminal as we make our way to Barcelona.  Chief liason officer Patrick Beaume is also doubling up as route-planner extraordinaire whilst Julie Beaume marshals the fundraising campaign and takes her seat as the boss!

If you have a chance to visit the pub whilst we are cycling, they will be keeping tabs on our progress and will be actively supporting the cause in whatever way they can; please keep an eye on The Cartford Inn Facebook page!

If you feel we deserve your support, a display is forming steadily within the pub itself and donations will be collected there and passed onto ourselves to add to the total.  Failing that both myself and Michael will be at the pub throughout the training stages and enjoying our last Cartford-supper of the Grand Fruits de Mer on the Friday eve of the cycle - please feel free to pop down and pass on your good luck wishes!!

Once again, thanks for visiting the page everyone; if there's any extra information you want about the cycle or if you want to get in touch (whether it be to support or maybe even tag along?!) then please send me a message or drop me an email.

"Together we are unstoppable".

Much love,

Sonny x
