Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

2022 is the year that Peak Translations fundraise for The British Deaf Association (BDA).

We're excited to be contributing to this wonderful organisation, to support those in the deaf community, and to increase awareness of how they help those who are hard of hearing.

Take a look in our 'updates' section on our JustGiving page to see how we are getting on with our fundraising journey!!

For more about BDA, read their story below ...

The BDA British Deaf Association (BDA) was formed by Francis Maginn in Leeds as the British Deaf and Dumb Association (BDDA) on 24 July 1890. At that time, Deaf people were excluded from national decisions that affected their lives. Hearing people acted on their behalf, but they did not represent their true interests or share their aspirations. The BDDA was established to elevate the education and social status of the Deaf and Dumb in the United Kingdom.132 years later, the BDA continues to advocate on behalf of the Deaf community and to protect, promote and preserve our beautiful British Sign Language. It has been a successful year so far, with the passing of the BSL Act, recognising BSL as a language of Great Britain, and the launch of the 999 BSL emergency video relay service. But there is still much more to do to achieve our dream of recognition, inclusion and equality for Deaf people!
