Story
I’m taking part in Prostate Cancer UKs Football to Amsterdam, a two day, 145-mile bike ride to the Dutch capital. We’ll be putting football rivalries aside to tackle prostate cancer once and for all. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It’s a disease which kills one man every 45 minutes – that’s two men during a football match. But Prostate Cancer UK know that we can turn it around. Their aim is to make this a disease the next generation need not fear. This event was originally due to take place in June 2020 and will now take place in June 2022
Once again I will be taking part in Jeff Stelling's March for Men This time taking part in 4 Marathon Marches Newcastle United to Sunderland FC, Harrogate Town FC to Leeds United FC, Tranmere Rovers FC to Liverpool FC and Millwall FC to Tottenham Hotspur FC, 4 marathon walks in 6 days between Sunday 29th August and Saturday 2nd September 2021 and will now total 15 Protate Cancer UK marathon marches that I have taken part in over 4 years
This is all part of a challenge 500 Miles (and 500 more) where I hope to complete 1000 miles walking, running and cycling between May 2021 & June 2022
My Story
- June 2013 I cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End with 4 friends all taking part in F2A 2019.
- June 2014 - I visited my doctor and had a PSA test as a precaution. The PSA was 39.
- Between June and Oct 2014 I regularly talked with Prostate Cancer UK Specialist Nurses.
- Oct 2014 - I had laparoscopic robotic prostatectomy surgery.
- Nov 2014 - found out from as a result of a phone call from a very supportive Prostate Cancer UK member of staff about Football to Amsterdam
In June 2015 I took part in my first Football to Amsterdam with St Albans City FC. Next years ride will be my sixth a total of 865 miles and in between I've also taken part in 12 March for Men...another 312 miles. I will also take part in another Half marathon as part of my training for F2A 2020 to add to the London Landmarks Half Marathon in 2019 which will take my mileage raising money for Prostate Cancer UK up to 1200 miles
My story wouldn't be complete without the support of St Albans City FC, its owners, volunteers, fans and cycle riders and which have been amongst the largest F2A teams in 2018 and 2019.
I'm proud that we have to date raised £146,000 and equally as proud that we as a community club have raised awareness of prostate cancer in St Albans and surrounding areas
