Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you know I’m a keen cyclist and have already completed a number of big cycling achievements across the world.
However, In March 2019 my good friend and core member of my cycling group, Graham Timbers had been struggling for fitness and after initially being diagnosed with worsening hay fever, bordering on asthma he continued to deteriorate. After further tests he was eventually diagnosed with Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). After extensive tests Graham was deemed a good candidate for a Pulmonary Endarterectomy to be performed at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, the only hospital in the UK that offers this procedure. The 8-10hr open chest procedure was undertaken on 9th December 2019, and was a great success.
Just as Graham’s initial recovery was coming to an end, Covid 19 hit and he had to shield like a number of others with existing underlying conditions. However despite Covid being the fatal disease that it is and all of the restrictive measures we have all had to take, there has been an upside. He has used his usual commuting time to continue his recovery and train himself back on the bike. With many of us not taking the holidays we normally would this year, we wanted to put our holiday to good use and as such I will be acting as a “Domestique” (A cycling term for the riders that sit on the front and do all the work! along with one other great friend Richard Mills) for Graham as we take on what will be a massive challenge for us all by riding Lands End to John O’Groats “LEJOG” this September to raise funds for the PHA UK . This mammoth challenge will see the three of us cover 1000 miles across 9 Days and climb a staggering 60,000ft in total elevation. (Equivalent of cycling up Everest TWICE !).
We are self funding the challenge along with a support driver and vehicle, so all proceeds that we raise will go directly to the PHA. Therefore of course the ask. If you are able to, I would greatly appreciate it if you could make a donation to help us raise as much as possible to support PHA UK.
As you can appreciate we are training hard...we have just a matter of weeks to go before the off and we will of course keep you posted on our progress.
THANK YOU in advance for any support you can give.
