Story
Charity, sustainability and social good has always been a core value of the Traverse team and community, both in the UK and internationally.
The LATA Foundation have launched the Peru 25 for 25 campaign (#peru25for25) to provide monthly essential food parcels for out of work Inca Trail Porters in Peru. I'm doing a sponsored 25 mile run over the month of March to raise funds.
Since the pandemic hit, Cusco in Peru has had zero tourism. If you've ever done the gruelling trek of the Inca Trail (or the other routes and hikes) you'll know how hard the porters work. I did the Salkantay trek way back in 2007.
Currently the Inca Trail Porters have zero income as tourism has completely vanished in an area that is really dependant on visitors.
The LATA Foundation is working with Amazonas Explorers to support 55 families with essential monthly food parcels. These parcels cost £25 and provide a family with the basic provisions for a month.
The challenge is to travel 25 miles, which (as some of you may know) is the length of the Inca Trail to support the Inca Porters. This can be walked, ran, swam, canoed or however you like but there is just a month to complete the challenge, starting on the 1st March 2021.
If you don't fancy the walk, you can simply donate £25 for a food parcel to the appeal.
The aim is to support the porters through the pandemic so they can return to the jobs they love; helping millions of people to visit one of the most iconic walking routes on earth.
