Story
I have wanted to run a marathon for a few years and there is one important person in my life I am dedicating this run to. Her name is Ami, my grandma, who I have lived with almost my entire life. She is 88 and has battled with dementia/Alzheimer's for approximately 20 years.
She is a bright, cheeky and dedicated animal lover who has travelled the world and always giggles when she burps. Despite her condition leaving her with little to no memory her core spirit of positivity, humour, protector instinct and most noticeably her knowledge of song lyrics still shines through. Growing up as one of her carers of the family is both a struggle and honour of my life, as she has been a significant factor in shaping the person I am today.
Ater a fall at home, Ami had been in hospital for the last 6 months. She has mostly recovered from the fall but has become weaker and frail. My family and I have adapted our care to see her every day so all her physical and emotional needs can be met. Nevertheless Ami still sings and burps while we all do the best we can. She is now in a home a well taken care of :)
Ami is the most inspiring person I know and she is the reason I have dedicated this campaign to Alzheimer’s Society who are transforming the landscape of dementia care and research. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
I hope with your help we can meet this target of £1000 to support those affected most by Alzheimer's. Thank you for your time to learn about my story and thank you for making a difference!
