Story
Ruth lives in Nigeria with her husband and two youngest children. She earns what she can collecting and selling firewood, but it isn’t enough to feed her family. ‘We suffer periods of hunger that sometimes last five or six months,’ she says. Every £72 I raise could pay for a family like Ruth’s to benefit from training in farming techniques – meaning food for today and security for the future.
That’s why I’m taking the Mean Bean Challenge, as well as to challenge myself. It involves eating only plain rice and beans for 2 meals a day, plus porridge (no milk or sugar!) for breakfast, and drinking only water.
