A lack of access to safe, affordable surgery kills more people in low-income countries than HIV/Aids, tuberculosis and malaria combined. Globally, there are five billion people who have no access to safe, affordable surgery. Mercy Ships is working hard to plug this gap. The charity operates the largest civilian hospital ship in the world, delivering vital, free healthcare to some of the world’s poorest countries.
We heard about the work Mercy Ships are doing at a breakfast talk at our church. We'd been praying about what charity to support when we got our "Good for age" places in London. We were so impressed, that we agreed this was the cause we should support. We are so fortunate to still be able to run marathons at 70+ and want to help others to just be able to live normal lives to their full potential.
