Hi there! Thanks for visiting my page.
So it’s a real thing, I’ve decided to try to run the London Marathon on 28 April 2019!
So let’s start at the beginning. In August 2016 I had some issues with my eyes (nystagmus for the nosey ones) and had various tests and scans to see what was going on. After a brain and spine MRI, I got called in to the hospital and on 31 October 2016 was told I had Multiple Sclerosis. Now I’d heard of it but didn’t know much about it apart from that it’s what people in wheelchairs had!
After diagnosis I had several chats with the amazing people at the MS Society and they were so good, providing lots of information on what MS is, what can be done and what I should do next.
Following these chats and lots of research, we made the decision to hit the MS hard and fast. I spoke with my neurologist and just a couple of months later on 27 February 2017 I had the first round of the 2 part treatment. The treatment (Alumtuzemab) wipes out some of the cells in your immune system that cause the problems in the hope of slowing down any progression. This was a 5 day treatment and it was really tough and left me weak and in a mess! Recovery took about 11 months and then a month later I went in for round 2 in February 2018 which was just 3 days this time.
During this round I had lots of time to think and decided to get my bucket list started and to get ticking some things off.
I grew up around south London and with the annual trips up to cheer on the runners in London each year. It was something I’d thought about doing, but was always a ‘one day’ item. Well when you find out you have something like this it sharpens your pencil so I signed up to run in 2019 for the MS Society.
So here we are! I’m running the bloody Marathon!!!
Thanks for reading and for donating to help me raise as much as possible for this amazing cause. It means so much to have your support and I hope to do you proud on the day!
Lots of love
