Story
What we are doing!
On 3rd October 2019, Marie and I will walk the final stages of the Camino Frances from Sarria to Santiago; a journey made over hundreds of years by pilgrims across Europe to pay homage to St James the Great at the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela. The final stage begins at Sarria 113km east of Santiago and will take a total of 6 walking days.
On completion, a Compostela Certificate awaits those who complete, as a minimum, the final 100km. This involves carrying a document called the Credencial. The Credencial is stamped with the official St James Stamp at each town or refuge at which the pilgrim has stayed and is proof to the Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago that the journey was accomplished according to the official route and enables the pilgrim to receive the Compostela Certificate.
We decided that we wanted to test ourselves and raise funds for a great cause. We both enjoy the occasional walk, but this will be a challenge for us both and one we are looking forward to completing.
Why are we doing the final Stages of the Camino Frances for Macmillan?
Cancer is a truly cruel disease, both Marie and I have lost close family members to cancer. Also, during 2018, two of our work colleagues at Marpal were diagnosed with cancer.
Cancer affects almost everyone either directly or indirectly at some point and Macmillian Cancer Support are there to provide the emotional, physical and financial support for people living with cancer. Without the support of volunteers and fundraisers, the charity simply cannot provide the amazing help and assistance that’s needed.
We want to raise as much money as possible! What Macmillan do makes a huge difference to the quality of support provided and research needed!
How you can help!
Please help by joining many others in donating for this fantastic cause. Donate whatever you can - it all helps and is much appreciated.
The donations will go towards those who really need it - and you will help improve and save lives.
Thank you in advance for your kind donations.
