Story

Ed and I were talking about signing up to an event to get us motivated to go out and get some exercise. Over the years we have done a few 10K events and I knew we needed something more challenging to keep us motivated.

Rat Race Man vs Mountain 2019 is a 22 mile challenge starting at Caernarfon Castle and weaves its way to the summit of Snowdon and down the other side into Dinorwic Quarry. There is then an array of punishing obstacles, including the infamous Vertical Kilometre, to tackle before crossing the finish line.

A bit of context, I have never run longer than 9 miles and whilst Ed has the London marathon miles in his legs he didn’t keep those sort of distances up afterwards. I have also been quoted on many occasions that “I don’t do hills!”, but I have picked one of the biggest in the UK to run up!!

Ed and I have been involved with Mushroom Theatre Company since its inception in 2004. It’s core values and ethos are something that resonate strongly with us both. The charity, Equal People Performing Arts, was set up to further develop inclusion for all in the performing arts and Mushroom Theatre Company are one of their key supporters.

The charity is going from strength to strength with its own premises in Rayleigh offering a range of inclusive services. To keep this going is not a cheap endeavour but a small team of fundraisers do an amazing job of ensuring the costs are covered whilst also looking to the future.

There are big plans to convert more of the space at the building into a fully inclusive performance space- a small theatre for the whole community to use.

Ed and I would greatly appreciate your support in this massive challenge and please look out for details of some fundraising events we will be running over the next few months!
