Story
We are doing this trek though the stunning Peak District on Saturday 29th September to mark the end of Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month.
Here are just 10 reasons why we would like your support in raising money for the eve appeal..
1, Everyday in the UK 58 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer and 21 will die, The Eve Appeal are determined to change this for the future of women everywhere
2, They are the only national charity on a mission to raise awareness and funds to protect women from these cancers
3, Their research has already achieved major breakthroughs towards improving survival rates of women with gynaecological cancers through pioneering research into screening, early diagnosis and risk prediction.
4, With their scientists and medics, they are united in the vision to significantly reduce the current 40% mortality rate from gynaecological cancers and save more women’s lives
5, Despite the current statistic that 40% of women diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer will not survive, gynae cancer research – and specifically funding in their focus on early detection and prevention – is woefully underfunded
6, Awareness of gynaecological cancers is very low and many women do not even know there are five gynaecological cancers: womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval, and vaginal
7, People are often too embarrassed to discuss gynaecological cancers or the signs and symptoms. As a result, in recent years there has been a rise in the number of younger women being diagnosed with gynaecological cancer and these cancers can affect women of any age.Helping us to raise awareness will change this and help save women’s lives
8,Their research funding supports innovative and cutting edge projects where conventional research funding is harder to find
9, Although they are a small charity their contribution is disproportionately large as they fund innovative new research and cover gaps in funding which allows projects to maintain momentum.
10, Their research is world-class and highly collaborative. They fund research at University College London, University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, University of Southern California and Harvard Medical School and at 9 leading European institutions.
