We support Bristol Children's Hospital to save lives & support sick children

Story

We are walking snowdonia to raise money for the fantastic charity ‘The Grand Appeal’ a charity very very close to our hearts.

Some of you may already know Regan was taken ill in March 2019, just at the age of 3 he was fighting for his life, from just a normal cough - to being put into an induced coma and  life support within 5 hours to give his poor body a chance to rest whilst the brilliant medics worked all round the clock to ensure we didn’t loose him. He was quickly transferred to Bristol hospital via specialist paramedics - it was so touch and go we (his parents) couldn’t even travel with him we barely had time to give him a kiss goodbye.

Just dropping to the floor.......

He was fighting pneumonia in both lungs, part of one lung had collapsed and his body wasn’t responding to life support. After a long hard fight of 6 days, there were ups and downs, days when we didn’t know if he would make it, medics were preparing us for the worst; That heart wrenching pain of thinking we would be without him - words just cannot describe that feeling.

He finally came off life support a week later, (the longest week of my life) our world had just come crashing down on us, days and night merging into one another, when we thought we would be on the road to recovery - we are to learn that his body has then started to attack his healthy organs! Starting at his brain! He couldn’t walk, he couldn’t talk, he even went on to loose his eye sight! He was a specialist case, a diagnoses was difficult! But they continued to work around the clock, day and night for the duration of admission (8 weeks) it was absolutely heart breaking to see him struggling so much, in so much pain and not being able to tell us.

He had play specialist, dog petting therapy, music therapy, visits from storm troopers, party clowns for entertainment, Bristol children’s hospital were absolutely fabulous in the care and attention to detail. Not to forget day trips for his sister to ensure she had some quality time.

We are still fighting this battle whereby Regan is on daily medication as his immune system has been badly attacked! He hasn’t been given the all clear yet... But we count our lucky stars every day that he is alive and with us.

This little angel is such a fighter and he was well and truly destined to be alive, he showed us what strength and determination he is made of, now it’s my time to give back, and to raise money for other families who are faced with similar circumstances. The Grand Appeal enable families to stay close together, offering emotional and practical support when our family literally couldn’t see a way forward.

This is a debt we will never be able to repay the life of our beautiful Regan, a thank you that will never truly be big enough! So let’s all put our hands in our pocket however big or small to help those families in need, because it’s an experience nobody can prepare you for.

Thank you Grand Appeal and Bristol Children’s Hospital.
