Story
This will be my second time taking part in the CEO Sleepout York and whilst I have done it once, I'm still not relishing the idea of doing it again. I mean I have no idea why they call it "sleepout" as sleeping is the last thing possible... cold, hard floor, uncomfortable, unusual noises, open to the elements, dark, no home comforts, snoring and being away from family... left entirely to your own thoughts in the early hours.
It provides just a tiny glimpse into what rough sleepers have to endure, but also the chance to spend an evening with like minded individuals wanting to make a difference within our own communities.
This might be my second time taking part, but it's my first time at the York Community Stadium and it's been 5 years since we last hosted the event due to the Pandemic and Stadium move, but it appears that whilst I'm a little older, I'm not much wiser having agreed to take part again!
The reason for my one night of discomfort is to highlight awareness of the issues rough sleepers face, as well as raising awareness and vital funds for several local organisations working with disadvantaged families in York, and providing support for rough sleepers and homeless.
In 2019, with around 50 sleepers, we raised over £25000 and so whilst I am nervous again, I am also incredible proud to be a part of this again.
