Story
Unfortunatley the Great north swim was cancelled due to bad weather so I was unable to take part.
As a result I have now signed up to the epic lakes swim which takes part in In Ullswater on the 15th July.
As some of you maybe aware I have signed up for the Great North Swim on the 23rd June 2012.
This is a 1 mile open water swim in England’s largest lake, Windermere. This is the fifth year this event has been held.
This year due to the challenges of this event (cold water, wearing a not so attractive wetsuit and distance) I have decided to raise sponsorship for a really worthy cause the Heel & Toe children’s charity.
Heel & Toe are a Durham-based children's charity who offer free conductive education to children with cerebral palsy, dyspraxia and other motor disorders across the North East. The charity offers free sessions to any child living in the North East region of England.
A friend of mine has a daughter (Aysha) who benefits greatly from this charity and I would like to help them continue the great service they offer children by raising much needed funding. So any sponsorship you can give in supporting this cause would be greatly appreciated.
Background of the charity
Heel and Toe helps children with Cerebral Palsy and Motor Impairment learn to overcome their difficulties using a system of learning called Conductive Education. It is a system of learning that has been developed with groups of individuals with motor disorders and provides the following benefits:
· Improves mobility, which in turn allows the child/adult to live more independently
· Builds self-esteem because the child/adult experiences success on a daily basis
· Develops physical stamina and independence
· Teaches daily living skills, e.g. dressing, eating and personal hygiene
· Promotes strong development of muscles and bones thus eliminating the need for some surgery
· Improves social/verbalisation skills.
Background
Heel & Toe is a children’s charity that was setup in June 2008, was granted charity status on the 4th September 2008 and opened the centre on the 6 October 2008.
The centre is a not-for-profit organisation that has 5 trustees and a parent steering committee, consisting of family members of children who attend the centre.
Donations will be gratefully received no matter how small for this worthy cause.
