Paula & Dave's Thames Path Challenge 2015

Thames Path Challenge 2015 · 12 September 2015 to 13 September 2015 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In September this year, we are walking The Thames Path Challenge which follows England's best known river. Our challenge will head upstream from Runnymede of Magana Carta fame, then on past some wonderful scenery to Henley for a total of 50 kilometres.
We are doing this in aid of Parkinson's UK in memory of Paula's lovely mum & uncle.
Rosie, suffered with this wretched disease for 21 years before her death at the age of 76. For every day of those 21 years we had to watched a bit of her mum die and if that wasn't terrible enough we also watched Rosie's younger brother, Paula's beloved Uncle Bob, suffer with this very debilitating disease also.
Dave's mum, Winnie who is 89, has also now been diagnosed with Parkinson's as well as Paula's paternal grandmother. So as a family we have been truely touched by this awful condition.
What is Parkinson's disease? People with Parkinsons have great difficulty controlling their movement because nerve cells in their brains have died. They can have a tremor or stiffness that makes it frustrating or impossible to do everyday activities such as eating, smiling, getting dressed driving or even picking up and playing with their children & grandchildren.
Parkinson's doesn't just affect movement. Things like tiredness, pain, depression and even constipation can have a huge impact on the day to day lives of people with the condition.
To make life even more challenging, people with Parkinsons never know when the next sympton is going to hit. This makes being out in public daunting. The stress & anxiety associated with this makes syptoms even worse.
There's currently no cure for Parkinson's and we don't yet know why people get the condition. Parkinson's UK, fund research into finding better treatments and ways to improve the quality of life for people with it. Parkinson's UK is the support and research charity within the UK and they are leading the work to find a cure.
If we can help in some small way to stop another person, another family suffering, then it will be worth all the effort.
