Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page as I try to raise money to support Alzheimer Scotland. How might you ask will I try to earn your donations....well by none other than running a marathon!!!! (Never thought I would be saying that!) On 6th March 2011, I will be running through the streets of Barcelona for 26.2miles - well that's one way to sight see the city!
Approximately 72,500 people have dementia in Scotland in 2011. Around 2,300 of these people are under the age of 65. The numbers of people with dementia in Scotland are expected to rise to 127,000 by 2031.
Alzheimer Scotland helps people with dementia, their carers and families. Local services include day centres, home support, drop-in centres, support groups, carer education, one-to-one support, welfare rights, as well as providing information and advice.
Their current campaign is the £1.5million Dementia Nurse Appeal. The appeal aims to place an Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Nurse in all 14 health boards in Scotland. With the number of those affected by the dementia on the rise, the support and training having a specialised nurse can provide is invaluable to not only those affected by dementia but also their families and carers.
