Story

In memory of William Francis (Bill) Bailey 1939 - 2011.

Bill was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimers in 2002 and by 2007 had deteriorated to the point where he needed to be in permanent care.  Inevitably his condition worsened over the years and he became particularly frail before Christmas of 2010.  He died peacefully on January 4th 2011.  His son Andy was with him.

He was an accomplished musician (he played saxophone for a swing band and a jazz band) with a particular fondness for the work of Duke Ellington; a talented amateur photographer; a keen golfer; an articulate writer; and an avid traveller.  Bill worked all of his life in insurance and he said this career funded his many interests.

He will be very much missed by his partner Elspeth; his children Paula and Andy, and daughter-in-law Jo; and his grandchildren Deyzi, Matthew and Danny.

His funeral will take place on Tuesday 18th January at 1.45pm at Wessex Vale Crematorium, Hedge End, Southampton.  Family flowers only.  Donations in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Society.
