Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’m Paul Mayson, 49 years old, married to the wonderful Cheryl and I have 3 fantastic children who are Ben 21, Annabel  20 and Kate 14.  I am a commercial solicitor by day and running provides the balance I need.

I began running in 2000 with my first marathon being the Flora London Marathon. My finishing photo is not a pretty sight but my taste and enjoyment of getting to the finish line was born !

I have since run 142 marathons which includes 14 ultras. I have been fortunate enough to participate in races around the world including New York, Tokyo, Las Vegas the Brecon Beacons, The Marathon Des Sables, the Swiss Alps, Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles, Chicago, the fells of Haworth and of course Windermere on fourteen previous occasions. And not forgetting the Gin Pit Double Marathon in March organised and run by Malcolm Collins which is a superb warm up prior to May.

However, in many respects, whilst the scenery changes the challenge and feeling of just being out there is the real motivation. The MDS had a number of memorable moments as did my trip to the Zimbabwe Victoria Falls marathon. Also, running the New York Marathon with my 18 year son in 2016. The feeling crossing the finish line with him knowing just how hard he had worked in completing his first run was amazing. But my stand out running memory to date is the last day of the 2019 10in10 surrounded by my fellow 10in10ers, the support team and amazing family and friends  Running has an incredible ability to inspire people as the 10in10 proves year after year.

That said, I never take anything for granted. The marathon can turn on you without warning so preparation and learning as much as possible from the other runners will be part of my plan leading up to the 10 in 10 in May.

The work of Brathay is my primary motivation for running the 10 in 10. Anything that promotes and improves the lives of young people in todays demanding society must be supported. Some young people just need a chance and Brathay provides that.

I have no doubt at all that there will again be moments during the 10 in 10 when I ask myself what on earth I am doing………..during those times I simply remind myself that I am lucky to be out there !
