We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

Got round the course in 3hrs 32mins 23secs.  First 20 miles were ok, but very hard work from then on.

Thanks very much to everyone who's sponsored me so far - any money raised goes towards Marie Curie, which is a good cause:

Around 40% of people develop cancer at some time in their lives, and every year cancer claims the lives of more than 150,000 people in the UK.  Research shows that around 64% of people would like to die at home if they had a terminal illness, but only 25% currently acheive their wish.  HALF of all cancer patients who die at home are cared for by Marie Curie nurses.

In Northern Ireland per year (2008/9) Marie Curie provide:

   - 78,750 home nursing hours

   - 1,360 patients cared for at home

   - 258 hospice patient admissions

   - 1,755 day case attendances

Marie Curie nursing care is free for patients, but depends on donations from the public to continue its vital work:

£20 pays for a Marie Curie nurse for one hour in a patient's home

£135 pays for attendance at a Day Therapy Unit for one day in a Marie Curie Hospice

£160 pays for a full shift for a Marie Curie Nurse in a patient's home

£800 pays for the cost of caring for an in-patient in a Marie Curie Hospice for a day

You can still sponsor me through this site - I'd be very grateful for any donations received.

Thanks.

Paul
