To watch a loved one become more and more confused during their life, being unable to remember their own family and their own identity is heart breaking. The speed in which this can deteriorate is difficult to observe. This is what happened to my granddad Chris Ward.
This scenario is one which more and more families are finding themselves trying to cope with. It is estimated that 820,000 people in the UK have dementia currently. There will be over a million people suffering from this debilitating disease by the year 2021. This is why it is crucial that as much money as possible is raised for research into tackling dementia.
This money is to benefit those who are suffering now and those who support them and hopefully through continued research find a way of slowing down the progression of these symptoms and one day maybe even a cure.
