At the beginning of August I went on a corporate sailing day, which basically means sailing from Portsmouth to Cowes for a couple of hours, having lunch and then sailing back again.

Somehow I got talked into this ………

 

A Trans-Atlantic yacht race….  from Gran Canaria to St Lucia, somewhere between 15 and 19 days to cross, depending on the wind, and sailing 4 hours on and 4 hours off 24/7 !!!

The event is known as the ARC 2010 and celebrates its 25^th anniversary this year. I will be competing in a boat called “Lancelot” which you can see in the photos on this page, as part of a crew of 8 and setting sail on 21st November 2010 with the official close date being 17th December (Hope to be back by then!)

In preparation I've given up smoking (those of you who know me well will appreciate what a challenge this is in itself - 2 weeks so far and counting !) and joined a gym in an attempt to get fit.

To make the challenge complete, I have decided to set myself one last goal, to raise £3,000 in aid of Demelza house, a local children’s hospice and a charity worthy of all our support.
