Last Chorister Just About Standing

2022 October Cardiff Half Marathon · 2 October 2022 ·
Amazingly I've reached the age of 70. It's now been 10 years since my operation and chemotherapy treatment for stage3c bowel cancer. I owe the fact that I'm still here to the NHS and Cancer Research so I'm running the Cardiff Half Marathon again for Cancer Research Wales on 2nd October. I will also be running for my father who died at my age of brain stem cancer and my son's partner Lydia. Just after giving birth tto my first grandchild Lydia was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer. Surgery and a rigorous combined radio and chemotherapy treatment hasnt managed to get rid of it so her fight continues.
Training has gone reasonably well. I trained for and ran the Barry Island 10km race in August in intense heat and carried on training from there. Missed the odd session but managed to keep my training going in Austria while on tour with Cor Meibion de Cymru without getting lost! I'm very grateful to all those who have pledged sponsorship so far. I'm particularly grateful to Tenby Male Choir who have allowed me to do bucket collections after our concerts and also put on a concert for Cancer Research Wales which itself raised over £700. I also have to thank TMC treasurer Gavin for counting and banking the bucket collections.
