In 2009 my family were torn apart when my amazing mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

This was something we never thought would happen to fit healthy and amazing lady. A person who while knowing she was dying stayed stronger than all off us. Even organising her own funeral so not to burden us with the arrangements. This summed mum up. Just simply an incredible mother and grandmother who did everything for her family. And never had a bad word to say about  anyone. 

Towards the end Mum was cared for by staff and nurses at Havens hospice, Southend

This charity and staff are just truly amazing people.  Despite knowing that Mum was going to pass away soon they managed to keep all our minds off of what was happening. 

When Mum did pass, I remember looking at the nurses who were all crying outside the room. Despite the short time they knew Mum they all said what an amazing person she was and that her death really upset them. This showed what a truly remarkable lady my Mum was. That within just a few weeks she left a mark on these amazing people.

Without the support Havens showed my family and I. I honestly don't know how we would of dealt with the pain we were in.

After finding out how hard it was for this organisation to get funding. I promised that I would run the marathon for them, and in memory of mum.
