TRANSAID CYCLE MALAWI 2022
In October I’m travelling to Africa to take part in a
cycling event for Transaid. For 5 consecutive
days I’ll be cycling over 500 kilometres to support Transaid’s work on road safety.
Transaid transforms lives through safe, available, and
sustainable transport. Founded by Save the Children, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and its Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, the international development organisation shares 20 years’ worth of expertise in 23 countries with partners and governments – empowering people to build the skills they need to transform their own lives.
In sub-Saharan Africa, road deaths are the third biggest
killer following HIV/AIDS and Malaria (source: The World Bank) and the problem will only rise with the growing population if nothing is done.
To tackle this, Transaid works to transform driver training, standards, and systems.
PROFESSIONAL HGV DRIVER TRAINING
In August 2008, Transaid partnered with the Industrial Training
Centre Trust (ITC) in Zambia to build capacity to deliver professional heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driver training to internationally recognised standards.
Following the success of the Zambia Professional Driver Training initiative, the programme was expanded into Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, and most recently Ghana.
Between April 2020 and March 2021 alone, Transaid and its partners
have trained: Over 4, 674 drivers, including PSV, HGV and FLT drivers.
I know how amazing you’ve all been in the past at
fundraising but I’m asking you all to support me in my fundraising journey so
we really can make a difference to people’s lives.
I look forward to your support as I put on my Lycra and start pedalling………
Thanks, Paul.
PS : Now the hard training starts.......
