We fund private mental health support to help those facing a Duchenne diagnosis

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2015 my friends son Austin was diagnosed with a rare muscle wasting disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  I had never heard of this illness until I met his mum Maxine and its absolutely horrid.  Here are some of the facts:

  • Duchenne is 100% fatal
  • Most kids with it die in their late teens or early twenties
  • Most are in a wheelchair by the age of 12
  • It leads to respiratory failure and other debilitating orthopaedic complications

I met Austin for the first time at one of Max's fundraising events and he really hit it off with my son Harley.  Being a Father to 3 boys I just couldn't  begin to imagine what it must be like living with Duchenne, watching my son grow weaker and weaker.

The charity I choose to run for is Harrison's Fund and their mission is to get as much money into the hands of the worlds best researchers who are working tirelessly to find a cure for Duchenne.  I want to help make a difference so that Austin and all others suffering from the disease can grow into the strong men they are meant to be.

As some of you know I’ve completed  a fair few marathons now so I decided to test myself over a 100km ultra marathon distance over the weekend of the 3rd-4th of September, training is going well so I’m looking forward to getting out there on the south coast and getting it done. After I (hopefully) have completed this event I have a few weeks rest then I’ll be the running the royal parks half marathon on the 9th October. HARRISONS FUND have got me a place in this event and I’ll be running dressed as Spider-Man just for a bit of fun and to hopefully help encourage you to donate on this page and help raise money to find a cure for Duchenne so real superheroes like Austin,  Harrison and all the other children battling this terrible disease can kick its arse.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, every single penny really does  count!!  TEAM AUSTIN IS RELYING ON YOU!!!
